Early Bird Launches Aimabel’s Parcel for Carbon Footprint of Deliveries at Check-out – Apoteket First to Implement

With Aimabel’s new Parcel API, Early Bird becomes the first distribution company in Sweden to offer e-retailers a detailed real-time calculation of the climate impact of parcel deliveries. The first to implement the service is Apoteket, which aims to provide its customers with the opportunity to make a informed decision based on the climate impact of transportation at the time of purchase, this spring.

Aimabel, in collaboration with Early Bird, has developed the API that maps the transport route at the address level, identifying the vehicles and fuel types used at each segment. This enables an accurate calculation of the parcel’s climate impact in the cehck-out in real-time. As a result, e-retailers gain detailed insights into the journey of a package from warehouse to customer.

“One of Early Bird’s goals is to drive and support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals. Through close collaboration, where we transparently share both innovative ideas and experiences, we can accelerate the process of offering sustainable deliveries across the country,” – Lisette Hallström, CCO, Early Bird.

The first to use the API is Apoteket, which currently offers its customers multiple delivery options through the check-out solution Ingrid, including morning delivery with Early Bird. The ambition is to provide customers in selected areas the possibility to make a conscious transportation choice based on the package’s climate impact at the time of purchase this spring.

By offering consumers simple and sustainable delivery options and prioritizing the most climate-friendly choices at checkout, Apoteket aims to ensure that every delivery has minimal climate impact.

“We want it to be easy for our customers to make conscious choices regarding sustainable transport. We strive to be at the forefront and are proud to be the first e-retailer in Sweden to offer our customers clearly climate-calculated delivery options this spring,” – Christoffer Andersson, Head of Logistics Operations at Apoteket.

Early Bird builds its business on a sustainable foundation by delivering packages alongside morning newspaper distribution, reducing the need for additional transport. The company aims to achieve completely emission-free deliveries by 2030. Currently, Early Bird reaches 65 percent of all households completely fossil-free and 58 percent without emissions during the final transport leg, the “last mile.” Over the past five years, Early Bird has more than halved its fossil emissions per package.

Both Early Bird and Apoteket are part of the Swedish Trade Federation’s industry agreement for fossil-free deliveries (SHIFT), which aims to accelerate sustainable transport solutions within e-commerce.

“We are proud of our collaboration with Apoteket and Ingrid and that we are now taking concrete steps, with the help of Aimabel’s API and other newly developed tools, to make sustainable delivery options accessible and attractive for both e-retailers and consumers. Our hope is that more of our e-commerce customers will join this initiative, facilitated by the integration with Ingrid. Together, we can set an entirely new industry standard and enable Swedish consumers to make conscious and sustainable choices,” – Lisette Hallström, CCO, Early Bird.
